When you find a great place to go, or have an especially noteworthy dish or drink or dessert, or even when you’re planning something awesome, photos alone aren’t enough to tell the world whether this is something worth remembering, something to seek out or something to plan for.

Sometimes a picture means “come here and do this!” or “join me” or “go out of your way to eat these!”

What you need in these cases is a new category of app: Social Utility. We created PubGeo to fill that need and it does it very well. Of course its also great for regular social posts too, but it adds some great new capabilities.

PubGeo is a bit like a social media photo app merged with a review app merged with a mapping app, a combination that adds up to a lot more than the individual parts.

For example, PubGeo is more useful than photo centric apps because its about more than just pictures. It brings context to great photos, tells people where to find that awesome thing you ate, and lets them know about the great times you’re planning. PubGeo helps others do what you did and benefit from your experience and wisdom, and you from theirs in return.

Compared to conventional review apps, where you wade through a mire of noise, with PubGeo you choose whose opinions are relevant and worthy, and whose to ignore. What would your friends tell you to do if they were here? PubGeo is great at letting you know.

And PubGeo is better than standard map apps because the search results aren’t the just the output of algorithms or stuff someone else paid to show you. It’s content generated by people – friends, friends of friends, and sure, Randos (when you want to see that too).

Here’s another thing PubGeo wants to be the best at: we want you to be in charge of your privacy. Every post you create in PubGeo goes into one or more Publications (Pubs for short). When you create a Pub you tell PubGeo whether the posts in that Pub are Public, Private or Secret. Everyone on PubGeo can see the content of Public Pubs. People have to ask your permission to see the content in Private Pubs. And with Secret Pubs, only people you invite even know the Secret Pub exists.

And importantly, we are not sharing information with other networks, opening up back doors or third party APIs, nor embedding third party trackers behind the scenes. That stuff is creepy.

PubGeo is a simple, transparent, fun and seriously useful way to meet people, share and find great places, things, & activities. See how quickly Social Utility turns into a category of app you cant believe you ever lived without.
